Processing Documents
Learn how Accurate Digits processes documents, identifies calculations, and verifies data for accurate, efficient report reviews.
Processing Documents with Accurate Digits
Once you upload your file, Accurate Digits will immediately start analysing it. For most single-page documents, processing takes less than a minute. Larger documents may take a few minutes, depending on their size and complexity.
A progress bar will keep you updated in real time, so you can see how the analysis is going. Most files complete within a minute, but don’t worry if it takes a little longer for bigger reports – that’s just us being thorough!
Behind the Scenes: How AI Checks Your Report
Accurate Digits is not just a calculator—it’s an AI-powered partner that helps verify your work quickly and efficiently. Behind the scenes, there are numerous checks happening to make sure everything adds up. Let’s dive into how these checks work!
How AI Performs the Checks
Our platform uses a combination of advanced AI models and traditional technologies to identify and verify calculations in your reports. Imagine we have a simple table with different types of fruit, like this one:
Fruit | Count |
---|---|
Apples | 5 |
Oranges | 6 |
Bananas | 3 |
Total Pieces of Fruit | 14 |
Accurate Digits would identify that "Total Pieces of Fruit" is a calculated value. It would also deduce that the formula used here is Total Pieces of Fruit = Apples + Oranges + Bananas. Pretty straightforward, right? But it doesn’t stop at fruit—our platform works for any items in any report, across any industry. We’ve tested it extensively with financial reports, yielding fantastic results.
Handling Complex Calculations
Now, imagine a more complex table that involves multiple columns and requires both vertical and horizontal calculations:
Fruit | Count (Today) | Count (Last Week) | Variance (#) | Variance (%) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Apples | 5 | 4 | 1 | 25% |
Oranges | 6 | 2 | 4 | 200% |
Bananas | 3 | 7 | (4) | (57%) |
Total Pieces of Fruit | 14 | 13 | 1 | 8% |
In this case, Accurate Digits will not only identify the calculations for total fruit counts, but also recognise that Variance (#) is calculated as Today’s Count - Last Week’s Count, and Variance (%) is Variance (#) / Count (Last Week). The platform is smart enough to handle these kinds of detailed checks automatically.
Detecting Relationships Beyond Simple Calculations
Accurate Digits also identifies relationships between data values. For example, consider this table showing the movement of apples over two weeks:
Apples | This Week | Last Week |
---|---|---|
Count at Start of Week | 4 | 7 |
Apples Bought | 3 | 0 |
Apples Eaten | -2 | -3 |
Count at End of Week | 5 | 4 |
Here, Accurate Digits identifies that the Count at End of Week should equal Count at Start of Week + Apples Bought - Apples Eaten. It will also know that Count at Start of Week should match the Count at End of Week from the previous week. These connections add confidence to your data.
Perfect for Financial Statements
The system is particularly well-suited for reviewing financial statements. In tests across various financial reports, Accurate Digits has identified and verified over 500 calculations per report, giving you confidence that every number checks out.
What Is Not Picked Up?
Currently, Accurate Digits analyses one table at a time. If your report has ten tables, each one will be checked thoroughly, but they are treated independently. This means that relationships between tables are not yet verified. We also don’t yet analyse numbers that are mentioned in the text (like in paragraphs). These are features we would like to add so stay tuned!
The Accurate Digits Approach: Combining AI and Traditional Tech
Working with AI's limitations
Advanced AI models are great for creative tasks, but when it comes to calculations, we need consistent, reliable answers. AI is non-deterministic, meaning that it might give slightly different answers each time—something you definitely don’t want when dealing with calculations.
That’s why Accurate Digits combines advanced AI with traditional, deterministic calculations. Our AI identifies relationships and formulas, but we always verify calculations using reliable methods that work like a calculator. This means when we state a formula, you can trust that the evaluated answer is accurate.
Understanding AI's Learning Curve
You might have heard about AI "hallucinating," or generating incorrect information. If this happens when reviewing your report, Accurate Digits will flag it as an error – because the calculated value won't match the stated value in the report.
What if the AI incorrectly says something is correct? This is very unlikely, as our checks would have to coincide perfectly with a false value. But to be safe, always double-check critical figures, especially when presenting to stakeholders.
Tip: Think of Accurate Digits like a new starter at your company. It’s great with numbers and knows your field, but it’s not an expert just yet. So, always review the results – just like you’d supervise a new hire.
Combining AI and Human Review to Streamline Your Workflow
Accurate Digits is here to make your work faster and more reliable. Whether you're preparing or reviewing, our platform helps ensure that your reports are as accurate as possible, catching mistakes before they reach stakeholders.
While Accurate Digits makes your job easier, we still recommend double-checking any important calculations. Our tool catches as much as possible, but ultimately, the final review should always be human.
