Uploading Documents
Need help uploading your documents to Accurate Digits? This guide covers supported file types, converting unsupported files, and tips for handling larger files.
Standard File Types
Accurate Digits supports uploads of the following file types:
- Image files: JPG, JPEG, PNG
- Document files: PDF
Only these file types can be uploaded to Accurate Digits, with a maximum file size of 10MB.
How to Handle Other File Types
If you have a document that isn’t one of the supported file types, you can often convert it to PDF. Here’s how to convert files from Microsoft Office applications and other programs into PDF format:
Converting Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint Files to PDF
- Open your file in the Microsoft Office application (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Go to File > Save As.
- In the “Save as type” dropdown menu, select PDF Document (*.pdf).
- Choose a location to save your file, then click Save.
Converting Google docs, sheets, or slides to PDF
- Open your file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
- Go to File > Download > PDF Document (.pdf).
- The file will download as a PDF, ready for upload.
For Other Applications
If your application does not have a “Save as PDF” feature, you can use the "Print to PDF" function available on most computers:
-
On Windows:
- Open your file in the relevant application.
- Go to File > Print.
- From the list of printers, select Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Click Print, and then choose a location to save your new PDF file.
-
On Mac:
- Open your document and go to File > Print.
- In the PDF dropdown at the bottom of the print window, select Save as PDF.
- Choose where to save the file, then click Save.
How to Handle Files Larger Than 10MB
If your file exceeds the 10MB size limit, there are two ways to make it suitable for upload.
Option 1: Lower the Image Quality
Lowering the file quality can reduce file size, especially for PDFs or large images. Here’s how to adjust quality in popular tools:
Reducing File Size in Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
- In the menu:
- On Windows: Open the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines in the top-left).
- On macOS: Go to the File menu.
- Select Save As Other > Reduced Size PDF.
- Choose the location to save the file, then click Save.
Acrobat will display a message indicating the successful reduction in PDF size.
For more detailed guidance on optimising PDFs, please refer to Adobe’s Help Article on Optimizing PDFs.
Alternative Tools (if you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Pro):
Online Tools: There are various online tools available to help compress both PDFs and image files (JPG, PNG), and many of these services offer free options. A quick online search will help you find a tool that suits your needs.
Option 2: Split the File into Parts
If reducing quality doesn’t bring the file size below 10MB, you can split the PDF into multiple parts and upload each one separately.
Using Adobe Acrobat Pro
You can split one or more PDFs into multiple smaller PDFs. When splitting a PDF, you can specify the split by the maximum number of pages or maximum file size.
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
- From the upper-left menu, select All Tools > Organize Pages.
- In the left pane, under Page Options, select Split. A command dialog for the split operation will appear.
- In the Split By dropdown, choose the criteria for dividing the document:
- Number of Pages: Specify the maximum number of pages for each split document.
- File Size: Specify the maximum file size for each document.
- Top-level Bookmarks: Splits by bookmarks, creating a new document for each top-level bookmark.
- To set a target folder and filename preferences, select Output Options, configure as needed, then click OK.
- Finally, select Split to create your separate documents.
For more detailed instructions, see Adobe’s help page on manipulating and splitting PDF pages in Acrobat.
Using Print to PDF on Windows
-
- Open the PDF file in a PDF viewer, such as a browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge etc.) or Adobe Reader.
- Select Print and choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
- In the Page Range field, enter the range of pages you want to save as a separate document (e.g., 1-5).
- Click Print, and when prompted, save the file with a unique name.
- Repeat for each range of pages you want to split.
Using Preview on Mac:
- Open the PDF in Preview.
- Select the pages you want in the first split document.
- Go to File > Export as PDF.
- Save the document, then repeat the process for each section.
Using Other Tools to Split PDFs:
Online Tools: Various online tools allow you to upload a PDF and split it into smaller files, often with free options. A quick search will help you find a tool that suits your need.
